An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) consists of vigorous testing of your electrical system with various testing equipment there is also a in depth visual observation to ensure there is no imminent or potential dangers that you could encounter. In a simplified manor its like a M.O.T for your home or place of business's electrics.
It greatly reduces the risks of: fires, danger to the homeowner, danger to employees, danger to customers or visitors, less emergency call outs.
If your electrical installation is more than 10 years old and it hasn't been tested and inspected yet, an EICR is highly recommended as it can highlight any potential issues that may arise before it turns into a costly job to have to fault find and rectify potential problems.
There could also be potential fines and liability if there is a fire within your home due to your electrical system being neglected and the required testing not undertaken.
You should have a sticker on the front of your fuse board which states when it was last tested and when your next inspection is due, the dates can vary depending on how old the system is and if it needs more frequent care than newer installations.
(The picture on the left is an example of an old consumer unit/installation and where the inspection sticker is normally found).
